Walks (& Cycle Routes)

Why have a 'walking' section on a history website?  Well, firstly, I'm a big fan of getting out there and experiencing the beauty of the region's countryside first hand - and on foot.  And, secondly, it gives you a chance to see a bit of history in the flesh.  Most folk just stride on past those 'antiquities' as show on our OS maps - but not us history buffs!  Bikes aren't really my thing, but I know a lot of you love cycling, so I've included a few of these websites, too.

By investigating some of the sites below you can plan a fantastic day out - many have several descriptions of walks of various lengths and grades.  A good deal of them are illustrated, too, giving those of you who can't get out and about much a chance to enjoy our beautiful region via the internet!  In time I shall highlight walks which are of particular historical interest - so if anyone can help me out with this, or any other aspect of this section of the website, then do let me know.
